Doctors of Optometry

Dr. Shivani Solanki

Dr. Solanki is originally from Ottawa and completed a Bachelor of Science at The University of Ottawa before pursuing her Doctor of Optometry Degree at The University of Waterloo.

During her fourth year of optometry school, Dr. Solanki completed both her primary care and ocular disease clinical externships in the GTA. During this time, she gained valuable experience in treating anterior segment diseases such as dry eye disease, ocular rosacea, blepharitis and styes. She also gained experience in managing glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. During her time at Waterloo, she served as the President of the Private Practice Club and was the recipient of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists scholarship in recognition of her clinical excellence.

In her spare time, Dr. Solanki enjoys staying active by playing volleyball, trying out new restaurants and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Solanki enjoys seeing patients of all ages, with a special interest in dry eye disease and advanced dry eye treatments. She is excited to be returning to her hometown to practice and looks forward to providing eyecare for you and your family.

Dr. Juan Giraldo

Dr. Juan Giraldo completed an honours Bachelor of Science degree from York University in 2018, before graduating from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science in 2022 (with Distinction).

He was the recipient of the 2020 Students of Vision Scholarship and is the first ever two-time winner of the National Vision Scholarship (2021, 2022). He was also the recipient of the Dr. Michael Gutwein Memorial Award in 2022.

Dr. Giraldo offers exams in English, French, and Spanish and has a special interest in dry eyes and specialty contact lenses. In his spare time, Dr. Giraldo enjoys spending time with family, playing soccer, and recording music.

Dr. Dylan Van Der Burg

Dr. Van Der Burg grew up in a small town called Bainsville about 2 hours south of Ottawa. His family owned a farm which transitioned from dairy to poultry to agriculture throughout his childhood. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Health Sciences program at McMaster University and obtained his Optometry Degree from University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s Honour List. In his fourth year of optometry school, he completed his ocular disease rotation in Miami, Florida where he gained experience in the management and treatment of glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Van Der Burg spends his time working out at the gym, watching football on Sundays, and spending time with friends and family. He is excited to be joining KOC and providing eye care to the Kanata and the Greater Ottawa regions.
